Much has been said and done about the Indo-US nuclear deal.

These are not the main reasons for the deal.....
US wants to put India’s nuclear weapon on hold...... all the claims that our PM n US president are making that the deal wont affect Indian nuclear weapon program is total nonsense...
if u read the finer details of the deal... u will find that it requires India to send the nuclear waste generated from the nuclear power plants back to the US....
till now all the nuclear waste was used in the fast breeder reactor to make thorium isotope that is then used in building nuclear weapons..... With no uranium waste to process, what will our defense nuclear cites do..... There research will stop......
with all 14 civil plants coming under international safe guard... using the technology for defense purposes would also be difficult......
But with the deal signed.... the stress on nuclear research will reduce as
nuclear energy constitutes only 3% of our energy needs..... even with this deal it wont affect India’s energy needs in a long term basis as our energy requirements r increasing pretty fast.... so the nuclear energy will not constitute more than 5% of the total energy produced in India....
had India not signed the deal.... it would have some problems for its nuclear development program .... But situation will never come close to what it is in
now developing nuclear technology only for military use would become too costly.... and hence will slow down....

Let me first clear your doubts:
1) India needs uranium which is not available with us plus proper mamangement of nuclear waste requires techonology.
2) There are many technologies which are dual purpose which can be used for industrial purpose as well as in reactors...These r not supplied to india even if needed for peaceful purposes...now we would have access to those.
3) india can built new nuclear resctors and can keep them in strategic area.
4) FBR are not operational yet and nothing can be said about those.
5) We are stronger than IRAN on military front but not on VOTE front . There r 56 muslims countries in the world which are alwasy up in the arms against india. they passed a resolution against india in OIC.
6) Oil prices are surging like anything ...to counter balance that we should use more nulcear energy which does emit hydrocarbon gases and a clean source of energy.
7) it is 3% percent but can be increased prvided wh ahve enough fuel at our expense.
8) Deal has been done under the suggestions of indian scientists ..and i think they know better than you about FBR and nulcear technology.
Time is less otherwise there many more points........

to start with not all scientists agree with the deal.... i know few who dont... but they have forbidden to disclose thr names... from them only i came to know abt the drawbacks of the deal...
i agree that we will be able to generate more power and we will be less dependent on islamic countries for oil...
but thr is a down side as well.... because of the deal... indian nuclear weapon program will suffer..... as we will not have the nuclear waste of the reactors to be used in military plants....
US indeed left our military sites to us... but it took away the fuel of those sites....
so in short... we r buying nuclear power at the cost of our nuclear weapons....
